1. PingInfoView
Ping is a well established tool to determine if an Internet connected device is alive. PingInfoView also pings multiple Web sites simultaneously, schedules pings and displays the results in a graphical interface.
Traceroute is a well established tool to trace a packet from your machine through Internet servers to an Internet connected device. It includes the IP address of each server, or hop, and how long it takes to reach each server.
VisualRoute 2008 Lite also shows a map of every hop graphed against a background showing response times. Highlighting any hop displays packet loss and speed. It details whether the route has fast, average, or slow throughput, and highlights any
problems.
3. WinMTR
Download link through this blog post. Similar to VisualRoute 2008 Lite but more configurable and less pretty. Export results in text or html to file or clipboard. (Download binary)
Monitor your current bandwidth use (upload and download) and track usage over time. Usage is dislayed in a real time chart and usage logs allow you to make comparisons over time.
5. Switzerland
Identifies IP packets which are forged or modified between clients. Used to determine if your ISP is interfering with BitTorrent uploads.
Email and FTP
Copies your address book, account settings, message rules, etc. to a single compressed file. Supports nine e-mail clients including Outlook, Outlook Express, and Eudora.
Duplicates all your mail into a searchable archive and optionally backs it up to CDs or DVDs. Supports Windows Mail, Outlook, Outlook Express, Thunderbird, and Seamonkey.
8. FileZilla
An excellent FTP client that combines simplicity with a robust feature set (it has just about every FTP feature you could need) and its interface is easy to use.
Virus, Spyware and Malware
Virus protection with anti-spyware and anti-rootkit software built in for added security. Automatic updates.
10. AVG Antivirus
A stable and user friendly antivirus and anti-spyware program. It pre scans search results for malicious sites.
11. Ad-Aware
Scans your PC for threats (e.g., Trojan horses, rootkits, and other spyware), warns you and give you the opportunity to delete, quarantine or disable them.
Anti spyware program that offers weekly updates and live protection from spyware and malware.
Internet activity leaves a trail of cache files, browser history, auto-complete information, cookies, typed URLs, etc. on your PC. Some Web sites gather information about where you’ve been and what you’ve done.
Internet Window Washer ensures your privacy by cleaning all those traces off of your PC. It also cleans traces of application activity such as which files you’ve recently opened in Microsoft Office applications.

Replaces Adobe Reader. It is smaller, loads faster, more stable and doesn’t take up as much memory as Adobe Reader.
